1. GAZE Guardrails inch so frighteningly close to the 170-foot cliffs, you feel as if you’re standing on the very edge of the precipice. But with more than 12 million visitors streaming through the area every year, elbowing your way to a plum view proves an adventure sport. Try to get there as early as possible, before honeymooners have emerged from their heart-shaped hot tubs.
2. SCORE THE BEST VIEW Forefather to Toronto’s CN Tower, Niagara Falls’ Skylon Tower features “Yellow Bug” elevators that lift tourists to the top in a tummy-churning 52 seconds. Stop for sustenance at one of Skylon’s vertiginous restos: continental cuisine at the revolving dining room or family fare at the buffet restaurant.
3. STROLL The popular White Water Walk escorts guests to a tunnel 230 feet below ground level, leading to a long boardwalk where tourists can promenade rapids-side.
4. SAIL Each Maid of the Mist in the fleet of steel, double-decker boats transports 600 poncho-swaddled visitors through the billowing mists of the falls.
5. PEER BEHIND THE CURTAIN In the Journey Behind the Falls, elevators chariot visitors through bedrock 150 feet down towards two soggy portals (the Cataract Portal and the Great Falls Portal) behind the tumbling, foamy curtains.
6. RIDE The Whirlpool Aero Car transports passengers above the Niagara River’s whirling, restless waters in an antique cable car built in 1913.
