CASA LOMA

Perched above a hilltop, the city’s castle was built from 1911 to 1914 by financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Designed by architect E.J. Lennox, the majestic $3.5 million project has been featured on A&E’s America’s Castles. There are 98 rooms, 21 fireplaces, bronze doors, secret passageways and towers. The library ceiling bears Pellatt’s coat of arms, while the conservatory’s floor is made with Italian marble and has steam pipes in the flower beds. British artisans carved the French oak panels in Pellatt's drawing room. Daily viewings of Pellatt Newsreel: The Man Who Built Casa Loma, a 20-minute docudrama that presents Pellatt’s life; narrated by Colin Mochrie. Open daily 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., last admission to estate buildings at 4 p.m. Adults $16, seniors/students (14-17) $10, children (4-13) $8.75, children 3 and under free. Capital improvement surcharge in effect in addition to basic admission: adults/seniors/youth $1 and children 50 cents.
